Viola Mary Bonjour, daughter of Ruel and Nettie Stiles Pelton, was born May 27, 1923, at Fredericksburg, Iowa. She attended Fredericksburg Schools, graduating from Fredericksburg High School in 1940.
On February 26, 1947, she was united in marriage with Clayton C. Bonjour at the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Hawkeye, Iowa. The couple made their home on a farm located north of Fayette. In addition to caring for her home and family, Viola enjoyed genealogy, scrapbooking, reading, and collecting items that were red, including cardinals. Viola’s death occurred at her rural Fayette home on Friday, October 21, 2011, from complications of age. She was eighty-eight years old and a longtime member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Hawkeye. She had also been a member of the Kil Kare Klub.
Viola is survived bythree sons, Daniel (Susan) Bonjour, Richard (Kathleen) Bonjour, and John “Jack” (Lauri) Bonjour, all of Fayette; one daughter, Eileen (Garry) Birth, also of Fayette; eight grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clayton in 2007; one granddaughter, Kim; and one sister, Gladys Britain.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, October 26, 2011, at Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Fayette with Rev. Garry Birth officiating. Friends may call from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 25, 2011, at Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Fayette and for one hour preceding services at the chapel on Wednesday. Interment will be at Dunham Grove Cemetery, rural Randalia. Following the committal service the family would like to invite all to share in lunch and fellowship at the American Legion Hall in Fayette. The family suggests that friends may, if they wish, make memorial contributions in her name to Northeast Iowa Christian Radio KRJE, 12251 175th St., Fayette, Iowa 52142.
